Cervical Arthroplasty (Motion Preservation Surgery)

Cervical arthroplasty is performed to replace damaged joints in the neck region of the spine. The vertebral bones of the spine are separated by soft discs which can undergo injury or degeneration. Cervical arthroplasty involves replacing such a disc with an artificial prosthesis. Also called cervical disc replacement, arthroplasty helps retain mobility of the neck, which is a big advantage over traditional fusion surgery.
